EdLab Application Suite

The EdLab Application Suite was actively developed at EdLab from 2005 to 2019. It was ultimately comprised of 13 web and mobile applications providing learners of all ages new opportunities to develop, share, and use educational content. Learn more about each application below and Brian’s role in its design.


EdLab Search

  • UX Lead (2005 – 2019)

EdLab Search was a cross-application search tool for content in multiple applications in the EdLab Application Suite. The unified User Management System allowed for customized content recommendations and recommended learning pathways across applications.

Vialogues

Vialogues is an award-winning video streaming and discussion tool providing a space for learners to hold interactive and dynamic time-stamped discussions about videos.

Pressible

  • Project Lead (2009 – 2019)

Pressible (2009 – 2019) was a website publishing platform created for the Columbia University community. As a customized WordPressMU platform, it was a cloud-based application for multi-author websites. Pressible utilized OpenCalais to generate cross-site content advertising, and social tools enabled Tumblr-like content sharing.

Pocketknowledge

Pocketknowledge is the crowdsourced institutional repository of Teachers College Columbia University containing over 150,000 historical resources.

Rhizr

  • User Support (2014 – 2019)

Rhizr (2014 – 2020) was a microcourse platform for individuals and groups to organize, curate, document, and shared learning pathways.

New Learning Times

  • UX Lead (2012 – 2013)

New Learning Times (2012 – 2019) was a mobile-first, daily publication reporting on innovative people, products, organizations, and research in the education sector.

The Gottesman Libraries App

  • User Support (2017 – 2019)

The Library App is a mobile application for iOS and Android to search e-resources, reserve space, renew books, and contact librarians for one-on-one assistance.

ResearchBroker

  • UX Lead (2012 – 2013)

ResearchBroker was an online tool to connect educational companies and startups to researchers in the Columbia University community.

Ednode

  • UX Lead (2010)

Ednode was a social networking platform that matched students, faculty, staff, and alumni in the Columbia University community based on their academic, personal, and professional interests.

Pundit

  • UX Lead (2009)

Pundit was a course search and recommendation tool that utilized data from course management systems, the library e-reserve platform, and user profiles.

Survey Sidekick

  • UX Lead (2009)

Survey Sidekick was an online survey creation tool that provided just-in-time instruction for good survey research practices.

Roomer

  • User Support (2010 – 2019)

Roomer is a reservation management system and iOS app that manages and displays room reservations and collaboration services.
